MVB Travel Series - Franklin County

Franklin County is the next stop in the MVB Travel Series. We opened our Waynesboro Branch in 2021, our first in the county. The area offers plenty of hiking trails and outdoor activities, with Caledonia State Park located in Fayetteville and three other parks bordering the county – Cowans Gap State Park, Michaux State Forest, and Tuscarora State Forest. On a smaller scale, Renfrew Museum & Park in Waynesboro offers 107 acres of land with hiking trails, picnic tables, a playground, a museum, and more. Whitetail Resort in Mercersburg is one of the top destinations, offering outdoor activities throughout the year, with skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing available in the winter and golf available year-round. Totem Pole Playhouse, located within Caledonia State Park, is a nationally famous and highly regarded summer theatre in Fayetteville. If you are looking for something to do with the kids, Cluggy’s Family Amusement Center in Chambersburg offers go karts, mini golf, batting cages, mini bowling, an arcade, and an indoor play area. Similarly, Greencastle’s Fun Castle Fun Center also has go karts, mini golf, batting cages – both inside and outside, an arcade, and indoor play area, in addition to laser tag and a bounce house. The Chambersburg Aquatic Center is the perfect place to take the kids during the warmer months, with a large pool, a tot pool, a lazy river, multiple water slides, mini golf, basketball, and sand volleyball. Franklin County is also rich in history, with Fort Loudoun serving as the site of a British fort from 1756 by the same name. Chambersburg is home to the John Brown House – also known as the Ritner Boarding House, which is designated as an authentic site in the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. The Old Jail was built in 1818 and is only a few buildings away from the John Brown House. The jail also has a connection to the Civil War, as it survived the burning of Chambersburg by Confederate Forces in 1864. There is no shortage of things to do and see, so start exploring Franklin County today!
